Bangalley - Bushfire Safe

Residential

Awarded '2021 Brick in Architecture Awards USA 'Best International Winner' for Casey Brown Architects.

This home was inspired by its location and it responds to its dramatic environment. Designed to last for 100 years, it has to endure storms, salt and bushfires. This is where Paarhammer came in with its Bushfire Safe Range of windows and doors up to and including Bushfire Attack Level Flame Zone (BAL-FZ).

The house consists of staggered and linked pavilions with cantilever terrasses and balconies over 3 levels. BAL-40 windows and doors are used on some elevations while other elevations were rated the highest level of BAL-FZ and required tested, approved and compliant products. All timber used is FSC certified Manilkara Bidentata (Pacific Jarrah), and windows and doors are double glazed for energy efficiency and comfort.

An arched entrance door leads via a vaulted passage to a double height space revealing its cliff-top aspect with magnificent ocean and beach views. Fixed windows, tilt & turn windows, tilt only windows are featured in this build, and a number of lift-slide sliding doors including corner sliders were used to connect the inside with the outdoors and the views.

Several sustainable features were designed for this property incorporating a solar array, water tanks, FSC certified timber and brass detailing, ensuring longevity and re-usability of materials. Constructed from bricks inside and out with custom made, highly detailed joinery and brass screen, this home is highly crafted and will last the test of time.

Carefully placed openings allow for light and sun to enter and for views to the surrounding heathland and the ocean.
